Food, Inc.
Food, Inc. is a 2008 American documentary by filmmaker Robert Kenner. The film examines corporate farming in the United States. The film concludes that agribusiness produces food that is unhealthy for consumption in a way that is abusive to the animals and environmentally harmful.
- Examines the industrial production of meat (chicken, beef, and pork)calling it inhumane and economically unsustainable.
- Looks at the industrial production of grains and vegetables and labeling it economically and environmentally unsustainable, again.
- The economic and legal power.
Select two "wow" moments to respond to.
What struck you, horrified you, or caused you to think?
What did you agree with or disagree with?
- Modern Farming
- Not what is used to be.
- Big business has taken over the food supply and the quality of food that we consume has suffered because of this takeover.
- Nearly every thing that we consume is jam packed with chemicals.
- It is no longer about the quality of the product, but how fast we can get it on, and off, the shelves in order to make profit.
- Farmers are struggling with their business and getting little to no benefit from big business sticking their foot in the door.
- Overpowering, underpaying, and burying of local farmers.
- Mistreatment of Animals
- Disturbing imagery of cattle, pig, and poultry.
- Had to look away at a few moments because of the cruelty.
- This film, however, is as much about the mistreatment of animals as it is the mistreatment of humans and a disregard for social consciousness.
I think it is noteworthy that none of the corporations mentioned in the film were available for comment after the film was released.
